Bjorn, the hunter, was a child of the rainforest that covered Midworld - part of the primitive society that the tree planet had sustained for hundreds of years. Four lay below, the Seventh and deepest being the Lower and True Hell, where in a perpetually dark swamp, mindless abominations crawled, swam and ate. ![]() The two Levels above reached to a sun-bleached green roof and the Upper Hell. Mankind, the persons, preferred the Third Level, as did the furcots. There were seven levels to the forest world, and each spawned botanical and zoological life which existed in a precarious natural balance. It was peaceful, arboreal and rich - if you knew how to stay alive. Rather, it was a question of it supporting too much life, too well.
